📸 The Skidmores Story – Part One

This photograph marks the beginning of a story deeply rooted in Worle.

Edward James Skidmore, born in 1864 in Fyfield, Eastleach, Gloucestershire, was a stone mason, builder and the founder of Skidmores’ shop on High Street, Worle, Weston-super-Mare.

After years in Oxfordshire, Edward moved with his wife Charlotte Sophia and their nine children to South Wales in 1896, continuing the skilled masonry work that would later become firmly established here in Worle.

But life had other plans, from 1914, several members of the Skidmore family left their tools behind to serve King and Country during the First World War.

This photograph isn’t just family history, it’s local history.
