📸 The Skidmores Story – Part Two: Why Worle?

f one young man and the war that changed his life.

This photograph shows two of the Skidmore boys, but it was Stanley Hugh Skidmore whose story brought the family to Worle.

Born in 1895, Stanley was working as a mason in Abertillery, South Wales, when World War One broke out. In 1915, aged just 20, he answered the call to serve.

In 1917, Stanley was badly wounded in France and brought home. He was treated in Bristol, before being sent to Milton, Weston-super-Mare, to recover.

So they could be close to their recovering son, Edward and Charlotte moved to Weston-super-Mare in 1919. Within a year, they were established in Worle, at 1 The Parade, Lower Bristol Road.

Worle wasn’t chosen by chance.
It was chosen because of service, sacrifice and family.
